Kid's Quest
Do we really want to see our children excited to go to Sunday school each week? Yes! We! Do!
First, Kid’s Quest is the format for our CrossRoads Sunday School program and is held each Sunday morning upstairs at 9:15 am. (The Kid's Quest Children's Choir meets for practice from 8:45 am to 9:15 am.) Children will rotate each week to a different workshop until they have completed the 5-week unit. The units will target the main Bible stories that all of our children need to learn to grow as Christians. The five workshops the children will attend are: Cross My Art, CrossCountry Kitchen, CrossWise (Bible skills & games), CrossRoads Cinema, and CrossPatch U.S.A. (music & drama). This gives the children five weeks to learn the Bible story in five different hands-on workshops. Does this sound familiar? Yes! It is very similar to the ever-popular format for Vacation Bible School (VBS) and every child loves VBS!
Adults attending CrossRoads help Kid’s Quest by volunteering to be workshop leaders or shepherds. Workshop leaders teach a workshop and shepherds stay with his/her assigned group of children as the children rotate through each workshop weekly.
The great thing about Kid’s Quest is that a workshop leader teaches for 4 consecutive weeks (one lesson which is compiled and written by the Kid’s Quest Curriculum Team) to different children each week and once those five weeks are over, a whole new set of workshop leaders are recruited for the new unit. The same goes for the shepherds. Shepherds stay with their group of children for 5 consecutive weeks and once those five weeks have passed, 5 new shepherds are recruited! We hope you take your spiritual gifts seriously and use them in Kid’s Quest.
Workshop Descriptions
Cross My Art : Drawing, painting, sculpting, and designing lasting works of art, children will use their creativity to learn Bible stories and truths. The Kid’s Quest Curriculum Team will provide the craft project instructions, the Bible lesson and supplies for this workshop.
CrossCountry Kitchen: The kitchen island will be used for the cooking center. Children will learn the Biblical story through their senses of smell and taste. These two senses are long-term ones and can help reinforce the story and help with memorization. The Kid’s Quest Curriculum Team will provide the recipe & directions, food and Bible lesson for this workshop.
CrossWise: Games, maps, graphs, sequencing and learning to use the Bible will be in this room. This is more of a traditional Bible study workshop with Bible table games or games that require kids to do some type of physical activity. The Kid’s Quest Curriculum Team will provide the materials necessary for this workshop along with the lesson.
CrossRoads Cinema: This is the video center. Appropriate videos relating to the Bible story of the unit are shown in this workshop. We will pop popcorn so we can eat it while we watch the video. Worksheets to go along with the video will be provided & the leader will then lead a question/answer session. The Kid’s Quest Curriculum Team will provide the video, worksheet, and popcorn.
CrossRoads Science: Various science experiments and lessons on nature will help children understand the Bible story and remember the characters’ message. The Kid’s Quest Curriculum Team will provide the materials necessary for this workshop.
