Angel Food Ministries Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and contributing to benevolent outreaches in communities throughout the United States.  With a heart to help others and a generous spirit, Joe and Linda Wingo founded Angel Food Ministries in 1994 to provide food for friends and neighbors who were struggling financially. Today, they are still doing the same thing. The Angel Food program now is helping provide food relief to more than 500,000 families each month.

Nothing But Nets   Jesus asked us to take care of each other. Remember how he said, “If you have done it to others, you have done it to me”? In that spirit, CrossRoads is reaching out to improve lives among some of our brothers and sisters nearby and farther away.

The first opportunity to serve comes to us in an amazing way. Lives are being saved by a global grassroots campaign led by the people of the United Methodist Church, along with Sports Illustrated, NBA Cares, the United Nations Foundation and several others. The organization, Nothing But Nets is working to protect the people of Africa from the deadly effects of malaria, by purchasing bed nets for $10 each.

Here are some facts worth noting:
Currently malaria kills a child in Africa every thirty seconds.
Because the disease is carried by mosquitoes, one of the most effective ways to prevent the disease is to prevent mosquito bites.
Bed nets treated with insecticide keep entire families safe from the biting insects while they sleep.
If we get enough nets in a village, it greatly reduces the number of mosquitoes present in the area, reducing the possibility of transmission even in daytime.
The insecticide treatment on the nets is effective for about four years, so one net protects a whole family for four years.

The UMC has been in mission in Africa for 160 years, and is efficient at distributing the nets, even to remote villages. Every penny donated will be used to purchase and distribute the nets, as well as to educate families on their use. Your $10 donation can truly save multiple lives. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will match all donations dollar for dollar! What an opportunity to double the effect of your gift.

Please share this information with your friends, family, and coworkers. They can log onto www.nothingbutnets.net to get information and watch videos about the project. The cool thing is anybody can make a donation in CrossRoads’ name. It is easy to  make a  positive difference for folks who need our help.

Donations can be made in one of two ways:
Online, by going to
www.umc.org/nets. Or you can drop your donation (or your friends’) at the office or in the offering plate. Be sure it is clearly marked, “Nothing but Nets”.
